This Sunday, July 27th, die-hard fans of The Mysteries of Love didn’t get their fix of the series. Indeed, the drama was canceled at the last minute due to football. Cult producer Jean-Luc Azoulay responded to the call on social media.
Ah, the vagaries of live coverage! This Sunday, July 27th, the grand finale of the Euro 2025 women’s football championship took place. For the occasion, football fans tuned in at 5:50 pm on TF1 to watch the summit clash between England, already crowned champions of the 2022 competition on their home turf, and Spain, the 2023 world champions. In other words, a clash between two of the best teams in the world, to be watched on Channel 1. However, at the end of regulation time, the two nations were unable to separate, and so had to go into overtime… shown on TMC.
Euro 2025: England crowned in front of nearly 2 million viewers on TMC
Thus, as announced by the inseparable Bixente Lizarazu and Grégoire Margotton during the match, and in order for TF1 to offer its 8 p.m. newscast hosted by Audrey Crespo-Mara, the rest of the match was switched to TNT from 7:55 p.m. until 8:45 p.m., as England and Spain were unable to separate and went to a penalty shootout. The end of the match and the English victory also drew nearly 1.9 million viewers on TMC, representing 10.6% of the audience currently watching. Meanwhile, the series “Les mystères de l’amour,” initially scheduled for broadcast, was, quite logically, canceled as a matter of urgency, a disappointment for fans who clearly questioned Jean-Luc Azoulay on the matter.
“Nobody warned us”: The Mysteries of Love canceled at the last minute, Jean-Luc Azoulay reacts
Thus, he took to his Twitter account (formerly X) to write this Sunday, July 27th: “Many of you are reacting, but we are sorry, we were not aware of the cancellation of Les Mystères de l’amour. No one warned us,” he wrote, using the hashtag LMDLA. Since the cancellation was made at the last minute, the expression “The hazards of live broadcasting” couldn’t be more apt…
