More than two years after leaving the series “Les Mystères de l’amour,” this iconic actor has reinvented himself in a completely different field. He shared an update on his life with RTL TVI on the program “Que sont-ils devenus?”

In December 2023, one of the iconic actors of “Les Mystères de l’amour” announced his departure from the series. This was Philippe Vasseur, alias the emblematic José. It was through a video posted on Facebook that the actor surprised everyone and officially ended his 32-year career. It’s worth remembering that his character had been a fixture on television since 1992 in the sitcom “Hélène et les Garçons.” Philippe Vasseur then portrayed José in various spin-offs, such as “Le Miracle de l’amour” and “Les Vacances de l’amour” for eleven years (1996-2007), and “Les Mystères de l’amour” since 2011.

Since then, Philippe Vasseur has reinvented himself in a completely different field. He now devotes himself to his passion for painting. “At my age, it’s more than time to try and make a living from this passion,” he declares in the RTL TVI documentary “What Have They Become?” This documentary reveals that the former actor aims to sell his largest paintings for between 1,000 and 2,000 euros each. However, he is well aware that his new career will not allow him to live as comfortably as before.

I’ve wanted to stop for a long time.

“It’s risky to leave the series, where I was earning a very good living. Everyone knows it, it was 1,200 gross per episode. Yeah, it’s risky unless you’re fed up and you’ve wanted to do what you want for a long time. I’ve wanted to stop and leave the series for a long time to do my paintings. Except that, like everyone else, I have things to pay for, I have my kid’s studies, and that’s the priority. Now that he’s working, that everything is going well for him, I can think about myself,” he rejoices.

At the time of the announcement of his departure from Les Mystères de l’amour, Philippe Vasseur also admitted to France 3 that he simply no longer enjoyed acting in fiction.

“I wasn’t having fun anymore and I was struggling to learn the lines, it was becoming too much for me, I just wanted quality. I’m not biting the hand that feeds me. However, at 58, I have the right to say that I want to act in quality things, to say quality lines where I enjoy myself, something that turns me on! Really!” he said without filter.
