“Nobody warned us”: The Mysteries of Love canceled at the last minute, Jean-Luc Azoulay reacts

This Sunday, July 27, fans of The Mysteries of Love didn’t get their fix of the series. Indeed, the drama was canceled at the last minute due to football. Cult producer Jean-Luc Azoulay responded to the criticism on social media.

Ah, the vagaries of live coverage! This Sunday, July 27th, the grand final of the Euro 2025 women’s football championship took place. For the occasion, football fans were scheduled to tune in at 5:50 p.m. on TF1 to watch the summit clash between an England team, already crowned in this competition in 2022 and on their home soil, and the Spain team, world champion in 2023. In other words, a clash between two of the best teams in the world, to be followed on the first channel. However, at the end of regulation time, the two nations were unable to separate, and so had to go into extra time… shown on TMC.

Thus, as announced by the inseparable Bixente Lizarazu and Grégoire Margotton during the match, and so that TF1 could offer its 8 p.m. news presented by Audrey Crespo-Mara, the rest of the match switched from 7:55 p.m. to TNT. And this, until 8:45 p.m., since England and Spain were unable to separate and went to a penalty shootout. The end of the match and the victory of the English women also brought together nearly 1.9 million viewers on TMC, representing 10.6% of the audience present in front of their television screens. For its part, the series Les mystères de l’amour, initially planned, was, quite logically, urgently canceled, a disappointment for the fans who visibly questioned Jean-Luc Azoulay on the matter.

Thus, the latter took to his Twitter account (formerly X) to write this Sunday, July 27: “Many of you are reacting, but we are sorry, we were not aware of the cancellation of the mysteries of love. Nobody warned us” he wrote, with the hashtag LMDLA. The cancellation having been done at the last minute, the expression “The hazards of live” could not be more applicable…
