“This mental load is enormous”: Mélanie Gonzalez (Large Families) talks about her exhausting days with 9 children

During an interview with Allociné’s TV News section, Mélanie Gonzalez addressed a topic that concerns many parents: mental load.

For years now, TF1 viewers have been following the adventures of the Gonzalez tribe through the reality show Familles grandes: la vie en XXL. And with so many seasons under their belt, Mélanie and Franck have given their fans more than one strong emotion. During the ninth edition of the program, it was the birth of little Calypso that shocked fans, who are just waiting for one thing: to see them again in the tenth season! While the launch of these new episodes began on October 6, the presence of the Gonzalez family has not yet been confirmed. So, while waiting to see them on the small screen or not, it is on the mother’s social networks that fans are consoled, but not only… Recently, Franck’s wife gave an exclusive interview to our colleagues from Allociné’s TV News section to discuss a subject that concerns many parents: the mental load.

Mélanie Gonzalez (Large Families) Openly Discusses Her Daily Overwork
What parent hasn’t felt overwhelmed, even swallowed up, by their daily life? Housekeeping, daily chores, professional responsibilities, etc. It’s enough to make you lose your mind, and Mélanie Gonzalez wouldn’t disagree! Speaking to our colleagues at TV Actu, the star of the reality documentary Large Families: Life in XXL discussed her own experience. “All working parents, who have children, whether you have one or nine, all know the mental load. So obviously, when you have nine children, it’s multiplied by nine… And this mental load is enormous! It’s constant. We’re always thinking, ‘Well, when I get home I have to do this and that.’” she said. Before focusing on a must-do of the day, which, again, will speak to most people: “There’s the evening tunnel too. Well, it’s still a fast-paced life [that we have]. It’s impressive!” And yet, Mélanie wouldn’t change this life for anything in the world!

Mélanie Gonzalez (Large Families): How does she relieve the pressure of everyday life?
While Mélanie has already called on housekeepers to relieve her of certain chores, when it comes to the mental load that weighs on her daily life, the mother has also found a method that bears fruit. “I write as much as possible to avoid having too much in my head. And for the older ones, I tell them: ‘Listen, you can do this.’ […] I try to delegate,” she explained. Before pointing out that her husband, Franck, is also a great help!
